Better men than I'll ever be...

While in San Antonio, I had the honor and pleasure of meeting and hearing the stories of several Veterans, Each of them Injured. San Antonio has large VA facilities.

I want to taken moment to acknowledge those conversations, and honor those fine folks, as well as respect all who serve. (the RV repair guy from the KOA, the only other 'gringo' fella at the "crazy 8" sports bar, and those I met at 'the friendly spot, in Southtown...

Without retelling their tales, as I won't do them justice, I do want to share what was common in these men, two of them much younger than I. They all wanted to continue serving!, of not in the military, then as nurses, law enforcement, or being fine Fathers... I was in awe of each of thier commitment.

So I give a shout out and much props to the vets and service folks I met so far, and I will gladly help out, or buy a drink for those I meet moving forward.

I thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and the lessons I took from each of your  stories. 
I do promise to step up when I can, and pay it forward in you and your brother's and sisters' names.

You are better men than I will ever be...

Howdy! We're in Texas!

Greetings from San Antonio!

We arrived Monday, and are at the KOA, which is in a really great location for getting around San Antonio.
The campground is in a large grove of pecan trees, along a creek, full of wildlife, and away form the hub bub enough to create the illusion you are not in a major city. The facilities here are very clean and as all the Texans have been, everyone is really, really NICE!
Aside form the humidity, we have liked everything so far.

The Dogs have enjoyed chasing squirrels, watching birds, and even exploring a tortoise!

Last night, after work, we headed to the 'river walk', which is the submerged river area beneath downtorn, all developed, and full of eateries, bars, night spots, and art/architecture... the dogs were little celebrities, as dogs are allowed there, but not many people bring them, so every few minutes we had to greet the dogs.
I enjoyed a wonderful meal on the river, and a few well made margaritas. Everyone we met, regardless of where from was having a good time, and sharing stories makes the trip an experience.

This should catch you all up to real time. We will be heading to the Spanish/Mexican Missions and a large park later this afternoon/evening. I plan on doing the Alamo Tomorrow.Will continue to Keep you all posted!

Musical Instrument Museum (MIM); A Must See!!!

On Thursday evening, last week, I went to the MIM in Phoenix. MIM Website

The Music Instrument Museum is AMAZING! It is a brand new facility in North Phx. Contained within is the history and examples of instruments from the entire world, an in-depth display of American icons in intruments, as well as an artists gallery of famed iconic instruments.

This was an EXPERIENCE! You are provided a wi-fi headset that knows where you are in the building and what you are looking AT!  so as you view mos of the instruments, you HEAR THEM!!, and often are displayed quality video, many times containing the actual instrument displayed in the exhibit.

This is a MUST SEE in Phoenix, and not just for musicians, as i went with someone that is not a 'musician', and it was thoroughly enjoyed by both of us.

AZ Visit Wrap up

Well, We are now in San Antonio, TX. We are having a good time, and the long trip has been smooth for the most part. Wanted to catch all up...


I concluded the AZ visit with a fun last week that included: go cart Racing, a baseball game, and a trip to the Music Instrument Museum (MIM) in Phoenix, I will do a seperate post following this one, with pics and details on that.

We stopped in to see my family on our way out, and had a few laughs, as well.

Sedona Visit

Hi all,

I was able to take the opportunity to get up to Sedona this past Sunday. A good friend joined the dogs and I on a short hike a really nice lunch, and it was a great day for the drive there and back.
Our visit to Arizona has been just wonderful. I look forward to returning in the winter for a longer visit.

Arizona continues; Easter weekend.

Hi,

Has been a busy past week wrapped up with work. I have wanted to post some Easter photos all week, and am just getting the chance. The Dogs and I are doing quite well, and are planning to resume our journey next week.

Last weekend, I took the trailer to my sister's house in Gilbert, and we set it up for the weekend out front. Our Mom was in town, and we enjoyed the time together. We did the usual egg dying tradition, and i thought the eggs came out unusual and quite funny. I especially like the little red haired ones! It was fun watching the kids with thier baskets and doing the hunt on Sunday morning. We also enjoyed the local parks, and got some exercise. It was great to see my Mother and catch up, and whole lot of fun with the niece and nephew.

I have a few more fun tings planned here in AZ this weekend. Next week we will have to begin preparing to travel again. Will keep all posted.

Arizona Visit continues...

Our visit to AZ continued this week. I worked my shifts from a friend's house, and the dogs spent long lazy days in the sunshine by the pool. The weather has been perfect every day. We have continued to visit some old friends and favorite places here in 'the valley of the sun'.

We got out to hike at McDowell mountains a couple of times. We did it one day this week at sunset. The desert landscape was beautiful, and the hike was a good one, you really feel it as you climb this trail. (yes, climb!) Some pics are below.

More to come, as my Mom comes to town this weekend, and the Dogs and I move the trailer to my sister's house for the visit...
